Do Hair Extensions ruin your hair?

Proper at-home care and keeping up with recommended maintenance appointments are just as important. We’ll teach you exactly how to care for your extensions, including brushing, washing, styling, and sleeping with them, to help keep both your extensions and natural hair looking and feeling their best.

Does taking Extensions out ruin your natural hair?
When extensions are professionally removed, they should not ruin your natural hair.
It’s completely normal to notice some shedding during removal. We naturally shed hair every day, and when you’re wearing extensions, some of those shed hairs remain held within the extension attachment until your maintenance or removal appointment. Seeing that hair all at once can make it feel like you’ve lost more hair than you actually have.
Your natural hair may also feel thinner or lighter at first simply because you’ve become accustomed to the added fullness and length of your extensions.
Professional removal is important. Your Domani stylist will carefully remove your extensions using the appropriate method while protecting the health and integrity of your natural hair.
How often do come in for moving up my extensions?
Most extension guests will need a move-up appointment every 6–8 weeks for tape & weft extensions, 3-4 months for keratin bonded extensions, depending on your extension method, natural hair growth, and at-home care.
Staying on a consistent maintenance schedule keeps your extensions looking and feeling their best while also protecting the health of your natural hair. As your hair grows, your extensions move farther away from the scalp, which can create unnecessary tension if worn too long between appointments.

What type of methods do you offer?
Each extension method offers something a little different, which is why your Domani stylist will help determine the best fit for your natural hair, lifestyle, and desired result.
Hidden Bead Wefts
Wefts are ideal for guests looking to add significant length and fullness. Rows of hair are attached using small beads and strategically placed so the attachment points remain discreet. They offer lots of hair with fewer attachment points and are moved up during regular maintenance appointments.
Keratin Bonds
Keratin bonds are applied in small, individual strands, allowing for extremely customized placement and natural movement. Because there is no continuous row, they can be especially helpful for adding fullness in specific areas and creating a seamless, flexible result. Keratin bonds are worn for several months and are removed and replaced rather than moved up.
Tape-In Extensions
Tape-ins use thin sections of extension hair that are attached to the natural hair with professional adhesive tabs. They lay flat against the head and can be a great option for adding length, volume, or fullness. Tape-ins require regular maintenance as your natural hair grows and can be removed, retaped, and reapplied.
